Jan Koum was born on February 24, 1976
in an area called Fastiv part Kiev, Ukraine. Jan Koum is known as one of the
founders of WhatsApp. Jan Koum's father works as a construction manager and his
mother is only a housewife. Jan Koum comes from a family of Jewish descent. The
area where Jan Koum is attached to every facility, such as electricity, is very
limited. Even to bathe they have to queue up in the public baths.
The Jan Koum family decided to move
home to America in 1990 to avoid conflicts in their occupied territories. They
moved when Jan Koum was 16 and living in Mountain View, USA. There, he lives
with his mother and grandmother, his father is still in Ukraine, and will soon
follow them. Koum and his father rarely communicate over the phone because they
avoid wiretapping by the Ukrainian government. Koum with his mother then
struggled to survive in America. But dear, Jan Koum's father died in 1997 while
he was still in Ukraine.
When Jan Koum moved to the United
States, she was proficient in English so she was easy to study in America. He
studied self-taught computer networks and even joined the grub hacker known as
w00w00 while at school. Graduated from school, he continued his education by
entering at San Jose University. To meet the needs of life and college, Jan
Koum worked as a computer security system testers at Ernst & Young.In 1997,
he met with Brian Acton, a Yahoo employee who became his close friend. Jan Koum
Yahoo! Brian Acton and Brian Acton Seven years working for Yahoo, Jan Koum and
Brian Acton then decided to resign from Yahoo in 2007.
After that, Jan Koum and Brian Acton
tried to apply for a job on Facebook, but both were rejected by Facebook. Then
in 2009, when Iphone became famous, Jan Koum bought the phone. He is interested
in seeing the collection of contacts on the iphone and app store. He realized
the potential for app store app opportunities that immediately gave him the
idea to create an app that could display profile messages on phone contacts on
the iphone. That's the idea that led to the creation of WhatsApp.
Accompanied with a sense of doubt Jan
Koum continues to develop the making of applications. Apple then came up with
the help of push notifications in 2009, this then gave way for Jan Koum to
modify the application made so that when the user WhatsApp change the status of
the application will automatically spread on the network.Then WhatsApp
converted into paid apps in 2010 and they managed to earn revenue of 5000
dollars in the first month. This then made many other investors invest in
WhatsApp like Sequoia Capital which injects $ 8 Million.And in the end WhatsApp
Purchased by Facebook and Jan Koum Become the New Rich
